Official Details

RBI research internship 2026 is the standing Research Internship Scheme on the Reserve Bank of India site (page last updated 19 September 2026). The January 2027 batch window is open July to November 2026. Official scheme — rbi.org.in Id=3496. Application workbook — REISCHE24122024.xlsx.

First, what this internship is

The Reserve Bank of India is the country’s central bank. This scheme is a research attachment in Mumbai. It is meant for people who left college recently and want a Ph.D. in economics, banking or finance, or a quantitative job in government or a financial institution. It is not the separate RBI Summer Internship (that one is a different product with its own October–December calendar). It is also not an RBI Grade B officer vacancy.

What kind of role this is

Full-time research intern at Mumbai. Duration printed: 6 months, extendable by another 6 months on need and performance. Exceptional performers may be renewed every six months up to a maximum of two years. Stipend printed: ₹45,000 per month. Office space and internet are provided. Leave: 12 days per six months, pro rata; extra absence is leave without compensation. A secrecy declaration is required before you start. Work experience is not a pre-requisite.

Who should apply — and who should skip

Apply if you match one department line and you can sit in Mumbai for six months:

  • DEPR (Department of Economic and Policy Research): Post Graduate in Economics / Banking / Finance, or MBA (Finance), or B.Tech / B.E., or a quantitative PG in Economics / Finance / Statistical Science, or proven computer / data-analytics skill. Programming skill, or the ability to pick it up, is printed as necessary.
  • DSIM (Department of Statistics and Information Management): PG in Statistics / Econometrics / Economics, or B.E. / B.Tech (Computer), or MBA (Finance), or a degree in Data Science / B.E. / B.Tech / B.Sc. (Computer Science) / M.Sc. in Applied Statistics, Data Science and Data Analytics.
  • FSD (Financial Stability Department): PG in Statistics / Economics / Econometrics / Finance, or MBA with specialisation in Finance / Banking.
  • ID (International Department): PG in Economics / Statistics / Finance / International Finance / International Trade, or MBA with specialisation in finance / Banking / International Relations.

Desirable on the same page: applied econometrics and quantitative techniques; some software among Stata / EViews / Matlab / R / Gauss / Python / Tableau / Power BI; Machine Learning familiarity; demonstrated research.

Skip if you need a remote intern, you are still in first year of a general B.A., you want the separate RBI summer intern (different window), or a third party is charging an “RBI intern registration fee”.

How to prepare (free, official)

How to apply without getting played

  1. Download the official xlsx form from rbidocs.rbi.org.in. Do not use a random “RBI intern Google Form”.
  2. Write one Statement of Purpose and collect faculty references.
  3. Email the form + CV + references + SOP to one department:
    • DEPR — deprinterns@rbi.org.in
    • DSIM — dsiminterns@rbi.org.in
    • FSD — cgmfsd@rbi.org.in
    • ID — rinternid@rbi.org.in
  4. Keep the January 2027 file inside July–November 2026. A December email is late for that batch.
  5. Sign the secrecy declaration only after an official offer. Nobody on Telegram can sell that form.
