Official Details

BIS internship scheme 2026 is the Bureau of Indian Standards scheme revised on 22 September 2026. There is no single national last date printed. Interns are taken through the year when a Technical Department or Branch Office needs them, and when your college can send the form. Scheme PDF — Internship-with-BIS-revised-scheme-22.09.2026.pdf. FAQ — BIS internship FAQ. Mail for this scheme — internship@bis.gov.in.

First, the basic idea. BIS writes Indian Standards — the rules that say how a product or a test should be done. An intern here works on a standards file or a lab / branch task. You are not joining BIS as a scientist or an officer. Finishing the internship does not create a right to a BIS job.

What BIS actually does

Bureau of Indian Standards is the national standards body of India. Headquarters is in New Delhi. Branch Offices sit in many states. Interns are posted in a Technical Department at HQ or in a Branch Office and must be physically present for the full period. This is not a coding intern at a private firm and not the FSSAI food-safety intern already on the Campus Reality board.

What kind of internship this is

Two paid tracks sit on the same 22 September 2026 scheme. The usual track is a continuous 8 weeks. A longer track of up to continuous 6 months is used only when BIS needs it, the college agrees, and you can sit full-time. Minimum attendance printed for the certificate is 95%. No application fee is printed.

No category-wise vacancy split is printed on this notice.

Who should apply — and who should skip

Apply if you are an Indian national, your course is in a discipline listed in Appendix A of the scheme, your college is a BIS MoU partner (or your HoD will send the form because that discipline is not available in MoU colleges), and you clear the printed marks bar — generally 75% or 7.5 CGPA, with a 60% / 6.0 CGPA exception only for law.

Skip if you are on a three-year undergraduate course that is not law — the scheme says those students shall not be eligible. Skip if you want a work-from-home intern. Skip if someone asks you to email a paid “BIS intern form” that is not Appendix C from bis.gov.in.

Class 12 students and first-year bachelor students do not match the printed 8-week / 6-month year-and-semester lines.

Available positions

1. 8-week BIS intern — ₹25,000 per four weeks Need-based

Eligibility criteria
Indian national. Course in an Appendix A discipline at a recognised Indian university / institution, preferably a BIS MoU partner. For the usual summer window: four-year UG students who have completed 2nd year / 4th semester with not less than 75% / 7.5 CGPA (law: 60% / 6.0); or first-year PG / PG diploma (management streams named in the scheme) with 75% / 7.5 in graduation; or five-year integrated students who have completed 3rd year / 6th semester with the same marks bar (law exception as above). Must be physically present at the posting.

No category-wise vacancy split is printed on this notice.

2. 6-month BIS intern — ₹35,000 per month Need-based

Eligibility criteria
Indian national. Four-year UG in fourth year (7th or 8th semester) after clearing the printed earlier-year marks bar of 75% / 7.5 CGPA. Five-year integrated students in fifth year after the printed 3rd-year or 4th-year bar. Three-year UG only for law, with the 60% / 6.0 bar printed for those law lines. Full-time physical presence for the whole six months.

Total vacancies — not printed as one national number. NITS first collects the need from departments and offices, then asks mapped colleges for about two to three times that many forms.

Educational qualifications

Track Degree / marks Experience / extras
8 weeks UG 4-year after 2nd year/4th sem; or PG 1st year; or named PG diploma 1st year; or 5-year integrated after 3rd year/6th sem. 75% / 7.5 CGPA (law 60% / 6.0). NOC: no class attendance during the internship. Appendix C form through nodal professor / HoD.
6 months UG 4-year in 4th year; or 5-year integrated in 5th year; law 3-year in 3rd year as printed. Same marks family. Same NOC + original marksheets at joining.

Appendix A disciplines on the scheme include food technology, agriculture, biotechnology, dairy, chemical, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, physics, environment, leather, textile / fibre, electrical, instrumentation, electronics / telecom, computer science / IT, artificial intelligence, civil, architecture, mechanical, production, automobile, mining, biomedical, metallurgical, materials, plastics, economics / statistics / operational research, tourism, mass communication, rural development, water resources, cyber security, energy, personnel / HR / sales & marketing, and law.

Selection

  1. NITS (National Institute of Training for Standardization) screens eligibility and completeness.
  2. Late or incomplete forms are rejected.
  3. Selection from the forms received for that discipline is on CGPA, plus discipline and location choice where asked.
  4. NITS sends a selected and waitlisted list. DG BIS approves it through Head NITS.
  5. At joining you show original marksheets and the original NOC. A mismatch cancels the intern seat.

How to prepare (free, official)

How to apply without getting played

  1. Ask your department whether the college is a BIS MoU partner and who the nodal professor is.
  2. If yes, send Appendix C and the NOC through that professor when NITS asks the college. Do not invent a public Google Form.
  3. If your college has no MoU, the FAQ allows a non-MoU form through the HoD only when that discipline is not available in MoU institutes, and only with BIS approval.
  4. Mail queries to internship@bis.gov.in. Ignore any site that charges a “BIS intern registration” fee.

FAQs

What is the last date?
No single national last date is printed. The scheme is open through the year. Your college nodal date is the date that matters. The 31 March 2027 date on this Campus Reality card is only a listing clock, not a BIS cutoff.

Who can apply?
Indian students in Appendix A disciplines who clear the printed year-and-marks lines. MoU colleges are preferred.

How many vacancies?
Need-based. No national total is printed.

Where do I apply?
Through the college nodal professor on Appendix C, not a third-party form. Scheme PDF — bis.gov.in scheme.

What is the fee?
None printed. Stipend is ₹25,000 per four weeks (8-week track) or ₹35,000 a month (6-month track), paid on satisfactory work. Pro-rata if you leave early.

Can final-year students apply?
Yes on the 6-month track if you match the printed fourth-year / fifth-year / law third-year lines. The 8-week summer track is written for students between years, not as a blanket “any final year” seat.

Is this a government job?
No. It is a short paid training attachment. It does not create a right to appointment in BIS.
