TIFR GS 2027 admission is Advertisement No. 2026/21 of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. Application deadline — 11 pm on 25 October 2026. Apply only at tifr.res.in/academics. The advertisement PDF is on tifr.res.in. This is a research-entrance test, not GATE and not JAM. A score here is used by TIFR departments. It does not place you in an IIT M.Sc. seat.

What TIFR actually does

TIFR is a national research institute. The graduate school takes students into PhD and integrated PhD programmes in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computer science, and science education, among others. Enquiries on the advertisement go only by email to admissions@tifr.res.in. There is no walk-in counter printed on the ad.

What kind of seat this is

These are graduate-student seats, not a job and not a taught master’s at a state college. Shortlists and later interviews are run by the department, school or centre. The advertisement says those procedures go up on the department sites later. Do not treat a paid form as an offer.

Who should apply — and who should skip

Apply if you want a TIFR graduate programme and you match the subject table on eligibility.php. The advertisement prints one rule that students miss: a 4-year undergraduate degree with 75% aggregate or more can be used to apply directly to the PhD programme instead of the integrated PhD. You will not get a master’s degree along with the PhD unless your Subject Board allows it. The ad says only SBTCS currently allows that. If you want the master’s with the PhD, apply to the integrated PhD.

Skip if you need an M.Sc. seat at an IIT. That route is JAM. Skip if you cannot sit the test on 13 December 2026. Overseas applicants who cannot travel to India may take the test online, proctored, at the same time, if they submit proof of overseas residency. Once you pick the overseas option, you cannot change it. Skip any “TIFR form centre” that is not tifr.res.in. The fee is paid on the institute gateway.

TIFR GS 2027 admission dates and fee

The fee is non-refundable. Payment is online by net-banking, credit or debit card, UPI, and other methods on the gateway. Afternoon papers are Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science and Learning, Information and Data Sciences, Biology (JGEEBILS) and Mathematics for all programmes other than the CAM morning paper.
