GATE 2027 admission — regular close extended to 5 Oct

GATE 2027 admission is the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, organised by IIT Madras. The notifications page says the regular registration closing date has been extended till 5 October 2026. Apply only on gate2027.iitm.ac.in. A longer note from 10 September is on our GATE 2027 registration page. That note still carries the older 27 September regular close. The institute page wins. This admissions card is the updated clock.

What GATE actually does

GATE is a national test used for M.Tech, M.E. and some direct PhD admissions, and by some public-sector units for hiring. The form you file now is the exam form. An IIT or NIT seat comes later, through that institute’s admission portal, and only if your score and paper match. A paid form is not an offer.

What kind of seat this is

There is no hostel seat on this form. Indian nationals must use a verified DigiLocker account. The notifications page says a verified account means e-KYC is done. Creating a DigiLocker login is not enough. Do not delete the DigiLocker account after you submit and pay. The same page says unpaid accounts can be deleted after the portal closes.

Who should apply — and who should skip

Apply if your degree matches the paper in the GATE 2027 information brochure and you can finish DigiLocker verification before you pay. The brochure is on the IIT Madras GATE site. Two-paper combinations are listed there. A new Robotics and Automation paper is in this cycle’s brochure notes.

Skip if you want an M.Sc. science seat. That test is JAM, closing 19 October on jam.iitkgp.ac.in. Skip if you want BDes or MDes. Those forms are UCEED and CEED. GATE 2027 admission dates and fee

Brochure copies used on our 10 September note put the regular fee at ₹1,000 for one paper and ₹2,000 for two papers for female, SC, ST and PwD candidates, and ₹2,000 and ₹4,000 for other candidates. Extended-window copies added ₹500. The notifications page of 27 September does not restate a separate late-fee close. If GOAPS shows a different slab or a later late-fee date, the portal wins.
