Official Details
NISER Bhubaneswar PhD winter 2026-27 Advt. No. NISER / ACAD / PhD / 2026-27 (2), dated 29 September 2026. Last date — 1 November 2026 (time is not printed). Apply on the NISER website online application portal. Detailed notice — niser.ac.in PDF.
What NISER actually does
National Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhubaneswar, is a Department of Atomic Energy institute. It teaches and does research in science. This window is a PhD seat, not a job form and not a BSc admission. A PhD here means you join a school, do coursework, and work on a research problem. The session starts in January 2027.
Only Indian citizens are invited in this advertisement. If you are not an Indian citizen, this notice does not cover you.
What kind of seat this is
Full-time PhD in the winter session 2026-27, starting January 2027, at NISER Bhubaneswar. Six schools are open. This is not a campus placement and not a project-staff vacancy. Fellowship, if you are selected and do not already hold an external fellowship, is printed as ₹37,000 a month for the first two years (Junior Research Fellowship) and ₹42,000 a month for up to three more years (Senior Research Fellowship), subject to academic rules.
Students who already have an external fellowship from CSIR, UGC or a similar agency must draw that fellowship under the agency’s rules. The notice says they will not be considered for the NISER/DAE fellowship.
Who should apply — and who should skip
Apply if you are an Indian citizen, you have the school’s degree line (usually 55% or equivalent GPA in the relevant master’s, or 75% in a 4-year / 8-semester bachelor’s), and you have a national exam that the school lists, valid for 2026-27.
Skip if you only have an INSPIRE Doctoral Fellowship and have not qualified one of the written national exams named in the notice. The advertisement says those candidates will not be considered. Also skip if you want a different school from the one you fill — each school needs its own form. Skip lookalike sites that ask for a registration charge. This notice says NISER does not demand any application fee.
Final-year students can apply. You must give an undertaking that the qualifying degree certificates will be submitted by the time of admission.
