inStem PhD January 2027 admission is open at BRIC-inStem, Bengaluru. Last date for the online application is 21 October 2026. No clock time is printed. Apply on instem.res.in/phd/2027/apply. The notice is on instem.res.in. Queries go to phd@instem.res.in.

What BRIC-inStem actually does

Institute for Stem Cell Science and Regenerative Medicine (inStem) is a Bengaluru research institute under BRIC. Scientists here grow human stem cells and organoids to study how organs form, and what goes wrong in heart disease, brain disorders, barrier tissues and metabolism. Chemical biology is used to build tools and possible treatments. The PhD degree is academically affiliated to the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad. You do the research in Bengaluru. The degree paperwork sits with RCB.

If “stem cell” is new: these are cells that can become other cell types. A PhD here is lab work, not a classroom M.Sc. Class 12 students should skip this window.

What kind of seat this inStem PhD January 2027 admission is

This is a full-time PhD starting in the first week of January 2027. It is not a job and not a certificate course. The institute does not pay you from its own core funds. You must bring a national fellowship that can be activated in 2027, and switch it on from the date you join. No bond is printed.

Who should apply — and who should skip

Apply if you have an M.Sc or integrated M.Sc in any science branch (biology, chemistry, physics and similar), or M.Tech, M.Pharm, M.B.B.S, or a four-year bachelor’s degree, from a recognised university, as per RCB norms. Master’s applicants need at least 60 percent, or equivalent CGPA, or first class, in both the bachelor’s and the master’s. Four-year or 8-semester bachelor’s applicants need at least 75 percent in aggregate, or equivalent CGPA, as per UGC guidelines. SC, ST, OBC-NCL and differently-abled (Divyangjan) candidates get 5 percent relaxation in marks, or the equivalent grade relaxation, as per Government of India norms, UGC guidelines and RCB ordinances.

You must hold an eligible national fellowship valid for 5 years: UGC, CSIR, DBT or ICMR JRF, or a similar competitive Government of India fellowship that can be activated in 2027. The notice says candidates who qualified JGEEBILS only, or GATE only, cannot be considered.

Skip if you have only GATE or only JGEEBILS, if you want the institute to pay a stipend, or if you cannot travel to Bengaluru for the in-person interview in the first week of December 2026. Also skip any site that is not instem.res.in and asks for the fee.
