CEED 2027 admission — regular close 31 Oct, 11:59 pm

CEED 2027 admission is the Common Entrance Examination for Design, run by IIT Bombay, for MDes and PhD design programmes. Regular registration closes 31 October 2026, 11:59 pm. Apply on ceedapp.iitb.ac.in. The brochure is on ceed.iitb.ac.in. This is not UCEED. UCEED is the undergraduate BDes test. A CEED score does not give a BDes seat.

What IIT Bombay design admissions actually do

IIT Bombay conducts CEED. Participating institutes then use the score for their own MDes and PhD design admissions. The form you file now is only the exam form. A college application, if that institute asks for one, comes later. Do not pay a “design seat token” to a person.

What kind of seat this is

MDes is a postgraduate design degree. The PhD line is a research seat in design. The brochure says there is no age limit and no limit on attempts. You still have to meet the degree rule.

Who should apply — and who should skip

Apply if you have completed a graduate degree, diploma or postgraduate degree of at least three years after Class 12, or you are appearing for the final examination of such a programme by July 2027. A 5-year Government Diploma in Art after Class 10, passed by July 2027, is also listed. Any stream that meets that duration rule can sit. The brochure does not ask for a design bachelor’s only.

Skip if you are in Class 12 and want BDes. That form is UCEED, on uceed.iitb.ac.in, with its own fee. Skip if you cannot sit a three-hour test on 17 January 2027. Skip portals that are not iitb.ac.in.

The live registration home and the brochure disagree on the opening clock (4:30 pm against 1:00 pm). The close times match. Use the clock on the live portal. Pay the late fee only if you submit after the regular close.

1. Part A is used to shortlist. The brochure prints the cut-off as delta = mean + variance, with 0.9 delta for OBC-NCL and EWS, and 0.5 delta for SC, ST and PwD.
2. Part B is evaluated only for shortlisted candidates.
3. Final score = 0.25 times Part A marks + 0.75 times Part B marks.
4. Each institute then runs its own admission on that score.

How to apply without getting played

1. Use a laptop with a current Chrome or Firefox browser, as the portal note says.
2. Pay ₹2,000 if you are a woman or SC/ST/PwD. Others pay ₹4,000. Add ₹500 only after 31 October.
3. Keep the receipt. A coaching “design counselling” fee is not on this notice.
