IIIT Allahabad PhD admission 2026 is a rolling window, not a one-day form. The updated rolling advertisement on the IIIT Allahabad site lists three cut-off dates. The third is 30 November 2026 (Monday). Apply from the institute page: iiita.ac.in. The PDF is Updated rolling advertisement. The announcements list shows this file expiring on 26 November 2026. The PDF itself prints 30 November as the third cut-off. Apply before the earlier date if you do not want a portal surprise.
What IIIT Allahabad actually does
Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad (IIIT Allahabad, also written IIITA) is an Institute of National Importance set up by an Act of Parliament. The campus is in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Students come here for information technology, electronics, applied sciences, mathematics and management research, not for a distance certificate.
A PhD is a research degree. You work with a faculty member on a problem for several years, take courses, and write a thesis. It is not a one-year diploma. If you are still in Class 12, this window is not yours yet. Keep the marks rule for later.
What kind of seat this IIIT Allahabad PhD admission 2026 is
Two programmes are open. One is PhD with institute fellowship or an external fellowship. The other is PhD for working professionals. Both are at Prayagraj. The advertisement does not print a service bond.
Institute fellowship means the institute pays you to do research, if you are selected into that seat. External fellowship means you already hold a fellowship from GATE, CSIR, UGC, ICMR or a similar body, and the institute admits you against that support. A candidate without financial support from the institute or another funding agency is not allowed to pursue the regular PhD. That line does not apply to working professionals.
Who should apply — and who should skip
Apply for the regular PhD if you have B.Tech, B.Pharm, M.Tech, M.Pharm, M.Sc, MCA, MBA, M.Com or an equivalent degree, and a qualified GATE, GPAT, CAT, NET (PhD only), NET (Lectureship/Assistant Professor), NET-JRF, CSIR NET or ICMR-JRF score, as applicable to that department. GRE or GMAT is considered only if the preceding degree was outside India.
If you have M.Tech, M.Pharm, M.Sc, MCA, MBA, M.Com or equivalent and you have not qualified a national exam such as GATE or NET, you can still apply. You must sit the IIITA-PET. Stage I is exempt for national-exam qualified candidates.
Marks: at least 60 percent or 6 CGPI on a scale of 10 in the PG degree at the time you submit the form. Direct admission after a 4-year UG degree needs at least 70 percent or 7 CGPI. Relaxation for socially and economically underprivileged classes is as per Government of India norms. The advertisement does not print a percentage number for that relaxation.
Working professionals in industry, R&D labs, government or private institutes, NGOs, banks and similar organisations can apply with the same degree family. GATE, GRE, UGC/CSIR NET, CAT or GMAT is not mandatory for the working-professional programme. You must be working and have at least 3 years of total experience on the application date. INI pass-out candidates (UG or PG) need 2 years. Marks floor is 60 percent or 6 CGPI, with GOI relaxation where it applies.
Skip if you are in Class 12, if you want a taught M.Tech seat, or if you have no fellowship plan and you are not a working professional. Also skip lookalike coaching sites that ask for a “registration fee” outside iiita.ac.in.
