What IISER Bhopal actually does
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Bhopal was set up by the Ministry of Education. This advertisement is for the PhD semester that starts in January 2027, academic year 2026-27. Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Physics. The academic affairs admission page prints, for national applicants: a 4-year bachelor’s in Science/Engineering/Technology, or a master’s or equivalent in science, or a master’s or equivalent in Arts/Commerce (or allied subjects), with a minimum of 60% or CGPA/CPI 7.0 on 10, overall, not only in the major. A valid GATE score, or selection through UGC NET / CSIR / NBHM including lectureship (Assistant Professorship), or a national exam conducted by education-ministry agencies or institutions such as UGC, IIT, IISER, IISc or IIIT, or selection to appear in the NBHM PhD scholarship interview after qualifying the written exam in 2026. SC/ST/PwD: 10% marks relaxation or equivalent grade. OBC-NCL/EWS: 5%. Department criteria still apply.
2. Engineering Sciences Seat count not printed
Eligibility criteria
Chemical Engineering, Data Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Same institute minimum on the academic affairs page, plus the department flyer. Chemical Engineering and DSE have separate flyers on the portal. Do not assume a Chemistry master’s covers Chemical Engineering without that flyer.
3. Humanities and Social Sciences Seat count not printed
Eligibility criteria
Economic Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences. Master’s or equivalent in Arts/Commerce (or allied subjects) is named on the admission page, with the 60% or 7.0/10 minimum, subject to the HSS research-areas flyer for 2026-27-II. National-exam routes on that page include UGC NET / CSIR / NBHM including lectureship.
4. International applicants Up to 10 fellowships printed
Eligibility criteria
Institute channel or Study in India channel. The international PhD page prints: 60% in 10+2, and a four-year bachelor’s or five-year integrated degree or master’s in the subject with 60% or CGPA/CPI 7.0 on 10 at both bachelor’s and master’s, and GRE general 280 or a valid GATE or an Indian national exam in the subject, and TOEFL 60 or IELTS 6 or another English-proficiency certificate, then selection by online interview.
