Official Details
Law Commission internship 2026 is the Voluntary Internship Scheme dated 22 June 2026 (No. A-60011/156/2026-LC), effective from 1 September 2026. Apply only by email to lci-dla@nic.in at least two months before the start date you want. For a December 2026 start that clock is 1 October 2026. Official scheme — Law Commission PDF.
The Law Commission of India is not a court and not a law-firm internship. It is a government body under the Department of Legal Affairs that studies laws and suggests reforms. A voluntary intern here reads, drafts and helps officers for a few weeks. There is no stipend. There is a certificate only after the research paper or presentation is evaluated.
What the Law Commission of India actually does
The Commission sits at Lok Nayak Bhavan, ‘B’ Wing, 2nd Floor, Khan Market, New Delhi 110003, unless another workplace is notified. It reviews existing laws and sends reports to the government. Interns are attached to that office. Hybrid or remote work is only if the competent authority allows it. Do not assume you can stay in your hostel city.
What kind of seat this is
Ordinary duration: four weeks. On the intern’s request this can go up to eight weeks, only if the supervising officer recommends it and the Chairperson approves.
Pay: unpaid. The scheme prints that the Commission pays no remuneration and no expenses.
Slots: ordinarily not more than 12 at any point of time. The Chairperson can change that number.
You may apply only once in a financial year.
Who should apply — and who should skip
Apply if you are a law student who has already finished at least two years of a five-year course or one year of a three-year course, you can sit in New Delhi without expecting money, and you can send a complete email two months early.
Skip if you need a stipend (use CCI ₹15,000 or IBBI ₹10,000 instead), you have already used this scheme in the same financial year, you cannot get a stamped recommendation from a professor or dean, or someone is selling a “Law Commission certificate” off lci-dla@nic.in.

Eligibility criteria
Law students who have, at the time of making the application, completed at least 2 years of the 5-year law degree course or 1 year of the 3-year law degree course at any recognised University / Law School / Law College.
Every application is online-email only at lci-dla@nic.in. Incomplete applications are rejected and no correspondence is entertained on them.
With the application you must send: an updated CV; a scanned student ID card; a scanned signed and stamped letter of recommendation from a professor or dean; a scanned latest or last marksheet. If selected you report with ID proof, a passport-size photograph, the original recommendation, and the original marksheet.
Selection looks at academic performance, quality of the statement of purpose, and available slots. If too many people apply for one month, preference goes to candidates in higher classes. Selected names are told by email.
A certificate is issued after evaluation of the research paper or digitised presentation and/or assessment of the work. Unauthorised leave: no extension and no certificate.
No category-wise vacancy split is printed on this notice.
Total vacancies — ordinarily not more than 12 slots at a time. The Chairperson may alter that number.
