Science Academies Summer Research Fellowship 2027 (SRFP 2027) is a two-month research fellowship offered jointly by the Indian Academy of Sciences (Bengaluru), Indian National Science Academy (New Delhi) and The National Academy of Sciences, India (Prayagraj). Last date for online applications: 30 November 2026. Apply at webjapps.ias.ac.in/fellowship2027/ (same form is linked from ias.ac.in, insaindia.res.in and nasi.ac.in). Selection with the guide’s concurrence is expected around March–April 2027. The fellowship can be taken any time in calendar year 2027, preferably in summer.

What the three Academies actually do

These are national science academies. SRFP places selected students and teachers with scientists or faculty who have agreed to guide short projects. It is not a job, not an apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act, and not a PhD admission. You work for two months with the assigned guide. Financial support is an entitled round-trip train fare and a monthly fellowship for living expenses at the place of work. The exact rupee amount is not printed on the announcement we opened.

Nature of the role

Two months of research work on a short project under an assigned guide. Broad areas on the form include Chemistry, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Earth & Planetary Sciences, Physics, and Engineering including Computer Science. You write a 150–250 word note on the specific area you want to learn, not a general description copied from elsewhere.

Who applies / who skips

Students — apply if you are studying in India in one of these years and have at least 65% average marks in core subjects only (excluding languages) from Class X up to the years you have completed:

• BS / BSc — II year only
• BSc (Research) — III year only
• BStat / BMath — II year only
• BPharm — III and IV years only
• BE / BTech / BCA — II and III years only
• BArch — II, III and IV years only
• MS / MSc / MVSc / MPharm — I year only
• ME / MTech / MCA / MArch — I year only
• MStat / MMath — I year only
• 5-year integrated MS / MSc / MTech / MBBS / BVSc — II, III, IV years only
• PharmD — III and IV years only
• Dual degree BTech + MTech, BE + MSc, or BS + MS — II, III, IV years only
• Integrated PhD — I and II years only
• MSc Tech — I and II years only

Teachers — apply if you are teaching in a college or university. The 65% marks rule does not apply to teachers. On selection you must send an authorisation letter from the Principal or HoD.

Skip if you are a PhD student, you have already taken the Academies fellowship twice before, your core average is below 65% (students), or you are not enrolled / teaching in India. Only one application per candidate is considered. If you submit more than one, none are considered.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Enrolled in one of the programmes and years listed above. Minimum 65% average in core subjects (excluding languages) from Class X onwards. Provide email of one present teacher for a recommendation letter. 150–250 word write-up on specific interest. Upload mark sheets Class X to latest (JPEG, each ≤700 kb).

2. Teacher Summer Research Fellow — monthly fellowship + train fare [several fellowships]
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Teaching in a college or university. Marks minimum does not apply. Upload mark sheets and publications if any. On selection, authorisation from Principal/HoD to be sent by post to The Coordinator, SRFP 2027, Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru 560 080.

No category-wise vacancy table is printed. Around 2,000 summer fellowships have been offered in recent years covering students and teachers; the 2027 announcement does not print a fixed seat total.

Educational qualifications

Selection stages

Online application only. Do not send hard copies of mark sheets or the form. Student applicants give the email of one present teacher; the Academy contacts the teacher for a recommendation letter. Selection information with the guide’s concurrence is despatched around March–April 2027. Keep the registration number assigned after submission. False information leads to cancellation and recovery of any fellowship or travel paid.

2. Have JPEG scans of mark sheets from Class X to the latest examination ready (each file ≤ 700 kb). Do not use special characters such as Ø or Ü in the form.

4. Students: add the email of one present teacher. Write 150–250 words on the specific area you want to learn — not a copied general description.
