As a college student in India, you can get one year of Google AI Plus free if you claim it by 31 Dec 2026. GitHub Copilot Student is also free once you’re verified as a student. Google AI Plus: one year free, but read this first

What it is: Google’s paid AI plan. The student offer gives you Gemini Omni, twice the usage limits of the free Gemini app, and 400 GB of Google storage, for 12 months.

Who can get it: eligible college students in India. Google verifies your student status when you sign up.

The catch, in Google’s own terms: – You need a valid payment method at sign-up. – After the free year, it charges automatically at the local monthly price unless you cancel. Trackers report this as ₹399 a month in India. Check the price shown at checkout. – You must redeem by 31 Dec 2026.

Do this: the day you claim it, set a phone reminder for 11 months later to cancel or decide to keep it.

Useful for study: Google says students get study notebooks that use diagnostic quizzes to find gaps and suggest bite-sized study plans. You can also use Deep Research reports in Gemini Live.

GitHub Student Developer Pack: the best free bundle if you code

Once GitHub verifies you as a student, you can use dozens of tools. The AI and career-relevant ones are:

Which “free for students” AI offers have ended or don’t apply in India?

These were widely shared, but as of 13 Oct 2026 trackers report they’re not open to new users in India. Check the provider’s own page before you rely on any of them. – ChatGPT Plus “back to school”: reported as US-only. – Perplexity Pro free year: reported closed; a discounted student plan remains. – Cursor Pro student year: reported ended.

How to use free AI without getting into trouble

Check your college’s rules. Many universities treat AI use in exams or graded work as malpractice. Use it to learn: explain a concept, make a quiz, plan revision. Don’t use it to submit.
Verify facts. AI tools can be confidently wrong about dates, fees and eligibility. For any exam or job, check the official notice.
Protect your data. Don’t upload ID cards, marksheets or passwords to any AI chat.
Watch for fakes. “Free ChatGPT Plus for Indian students” links on WhatsApp are often phishing. Claim offers only on the provider’s own website.
