What Jawaharlal Nehru University actually does
Jawaharlal Nehru University is a central university in New Delhi. It teaches and researches languages, social sciences, international studies and sciences. A PhD is a research degree: a supervisor, coursework, and a thesis. In-absentia here means the foreign applicant applies without sitting a JNU entrance test in India. It is not a distance degree for Indian students.
If you are an Indian Class 12 or college student, this page is a warning, not an apply button. JNU’s Indian PhD route is a different notice. Do not pay USD 50 on this form if your passport is Indian.
What kind of seat this JNU PhD international admission 2026-27 is
Ph.D. seats for academic year 2026-27, foreign national, in-absentia. There is a separate application form. You send it by post or by email. The notice does not print a stipend, a bond, or a hostel guarantee. Seat numbers are in the e-prospectus, not in this short notice. Check intake before you pay.
Who should apply — and who should skip
Apply only if you are a foreign national and the e-prospectus 2026-27 shows a seat in the programme you want. The short notice does not reprint degree or marks rules. Those sit in the e-prospectus on jnu.ac.in. The form must be filled in block letters, with no cutting or correction. An illegible form is not accepted.
Skip if you are an Indian citizen, OCI applying through the Indian entrance route, or anyone who found this link on a coaching site. Also skip if the prospectus shows no intake for your programme. Do not pay a middleman to “arrange” a JNU seat.
