What IIT Tirupati actually does

Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati is a centrally funded institute under the Institutes of Technology Act. Its permanent campus is at Yerpedu-Venkatagiri Road, Yerpedu Post, Tirupati District, Andhra Pradesh – 517619. It runs undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes across engineering, sciences and humanities.

For research, it admits students into M.S.(Research) and Ph.D. in several departments. Full-time regular scholars can get Half-Time Research Assistantship (HTRA) as per Ministry of Education norms.

What kind of programme this is

This is the January 2027 admission cycle for M.S.(R) and Ph.D. programmes. It is not a job. Research scholars do coursework, then research under a supervisor. Expected duration is about 2.5 years for M.S.(R) and 5 years for Ph.D., with maximums as per the ordinances.

Categories include Regular-HTRA/Project, Regular-Fellowship, Part-Time, External and Internal (IIT Tirupati staff).

Who should apply — and who should skip

Apply if you have a relevant B.Tech/B.E., M.Tech/M.E., M.Sc. or equivalent and meet the GATE/NET or CGPA rules printed for your category. Full-time applicants who want HTRA should check the exact eligibility table on the Ph.D. and M.S. pages.

Skip if your degree does not match the department areas, if you cannot produce a valid GATE/NET where required, or if you are looking for a teaching or administrative job (this is research admission only). Part-time and external need 2 years experience and NoC.
