NIT Hamirpur Visvesvaraya PhD admission 2026 is the September 2026 window under MeitY’s Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT, Phase II. Last date for the online form and documents — 14 October 2026, 5 pm (1700 hrs). Apply on the official Google Form. Brochure PDF — nith.ac.in.

What NIT Hamirpur actually does

NIT Hamirpur is an Institute of National Importance in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. It started as REC Hamirpur in 1986 and became an NIT under the 2007 Act. Students here do B.Tech, B.Arch, M.Tech, M.Sc and PhD. This notice is not the regular institute PhD round. It is a small MeitY-funded seat set in two departments only.

What kind of seat this is

A PhD is a research degree after a master’s, or after a very strong bachelor’s. You work with a faculty guide for several years and write a thesis. This window has two types. Full-time means you stay on campus and can get a monthly fellowship. Part-time means you already have a job and do the PhD alongside work, with a residency rule.

The institute is also running MeitY’s Chips-to-Startup (C2S) project on an ultra-small atomic clock. The one full-time seat is printed under that C2S line.

Who should apply — and who should skip

Apply if you have a master’s in engineering or technology in the right branch, with 6.5 CGPI or 60% (Open/EWS/OBC-NCL) or 6.0 CGPI or 55% (SC/ST/PwD). You can also apply with only a B.Tech if you have 8.5 CGPI or 80% (Open/EWS/OBC-NCL) or 8.0 CGPI or 75% (SC/ST/PwD). Full-time fellowship (FT01) needs GATE or UGC-NET / UGC-CSIR NET. Departments may set a higher cut-off than this floor.

Skip if you want civil, mechanical, chemical or architecture — those departments are not in this brochure. Skip if you are a sponsored employee hoping for the monthly fellowship: the brochure says sponsored and employed candidates cannot apply under FT01. Skip lookalike forms that are not the Google Form on the NIT Hamirpur brochure.
