nitk-surathkal-mtech-r-phd-winter-admission-2026 is the Winter Session 2026-27 call for M.Tech.(Research) and Ph.D. at National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal. Last date for online submission — 1 November 2026, 23:59 hrs. Apply on the IRIS portal at iris.nitk.ac.in. Detailed bulletin — nitk.ac.in PDF.

What NITK Surathkal actually does

NITK Surathkal is an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education. It runs BTech, MTech, MBA, MSc and research programmes on the Surathkal campus near Mangaluru. This notice is only for the Winter Session research seats — not the regular GATE CCMT MTech or JoSAA BTech seats.

What kind of seat this is

These are full-time research seats (M.Tech by Research and Ph.D.) plus some non-scholarship / sponsored / internal-external registrant routes. Campus is at Surathkal, Karnataka. Institute fellowship is available only on the scholarship seats and only if you meet the progress and work rules printed in the bulletin.

Who should apply — and who should skip

Apply if you have a relevant BE/BTech (or higher) with the printed CGPA or marks, a valid GATE score for the scholarship M.Tech(R) track, and you can travel to Surathkal for the offline test and interview in late November / early December.

Skip if you want a regular taught MTech without a research component, you do not have a valid GATE for the scholarship M.Tech(R) route, you cannot send the hard copy so it reaches NITK by 5 November, or you are looking for a pure online / distance research seat.
