What ABV-IIITM Gwalior actually does

Atal Bihari Vajpayee-Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior, is an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education. Students usually meet it as an integrated B.Tech–M.Tech or MBA campus. This window is only the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme 2026-27: one full-time PhD, one part-time PhD, and one postdoctoral fellowship.

A full-time PhD here means you move to Gwalior and the scheme pays a monthly fellowship. A part-time PhD means you stay in a job and get a one-time amount only after you finish. A PDF is for someone who already defended a PhD. If those three words are new, use the card that matches your degree, not the highest stipend on the poster.

What kind of seat this is

Full-time PhD is in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering under the Chip to Startup (C2S) project. One seat. Part-time PhD is in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, or Information Technology. One seat. PDF is in CS, EE or IT. One seat, maximum one year, temporary. The institute will give accommodation or a reimbursement of rent at 16% of the full-time fellowship. No bond figure is printed.

Who should apply — and who should skip

Apply for the full-time seat if you have a Master’s in engineering, technology, electronics, mechatronics, or an equivalent the institute accepts (MSc, MCA, or MS in a relevant field, and 10+2 with mathematics) at 60% or CGPA 6.5/10, and you have qualified GATE or NET. A B.Tech-only applicant needs 75% or CGPA 8.0 and a valid GATE score. GATE is not required if the B.Tech or equivalent is from a CFTI with CGPA 8.0 or above.

Apply for part-time if you have two years of relevant experience after the PG degree. The PG bar can drop to a BE/B.Tech if you have five years of total experience in industry, an academic institution, or R&D. Marks: M.Tech at 60% or CGPA 6.5/10, or B.Tech at 75% or CGPA 8.0. You must not be taking another Central or State PhD fellowship.

Skip if you want a humanities or management PhD, if you already finished a PhD at ABV-IIITM (PDF bar), or if you are over 40 for the PDF. PDF applicants need an Indian nationality, first class from graduation onward, at least two SCI/SSCI/SCIE papers, and must apply within five years of the PhD defence. Thesis-submitted candidates can apply, but they need the award certificate before joining. One degree from graduation onward, or regular-pay work, should be from a CFTI (IISc, IIT, IIIT, NIT, IIM, ISI, IISER preferred) or a foreign university with QS rank 750 or better.

1. Full-time PhD — EEE, Chip to Startup 1 seat

Eligibility criteria
Master’s in engineering/technology/electronics/mechatronics or equivalent (MSc/MCA/MS in the relevant field, 10+2 with mathematics) at 60% or CGPA 6.5/10, plus GATE or NET. B.Tech-only: 75% or CGPA 8.0 and a valid GATE score. CFTI B.Tech with CGPA 8.0 or above can skip GATE. Research areas printed: Artificial Intelligence, optimisation, wireless network, communication, VLSI, chip design, IoT hardware, antenna design. Fellowship Rs 46,250 per month in year 1 and year 2, Rs 52,500 per month in years 3 to 5, until PhD completion or 5 years, whichever is earlier. Hostel or rent reimbursement at 16% of fellowship. Contingency up to Rs 30,000 a year. International conference support and one lab visit abroad from year 3, with conditions.

2. Part-time PhD — CS, EE or IT 1 seat

Eligibility criteria
Two years of relevant experience after the PG degree. PG bar can relax to UG (BE/B.Tech only) if total experience is five years in industry, academia or R&D. M.Tech or equivalent at 60% or CGPA 6.5/10. Without M.Tech: B.Tech at 75% or CGPA 8.0. Must not take another government PhD fellowship. One-time incentive of Rs 3 lakh on successful completion. Areas printed include AI, NLP, software engineering, cloud, computer vision, security, robotics, wireless, VLSI and chip design.

3. Postdoctoral fellowship — CS, EE or IT 1 seat

Eligibility criteria
Indian national. PhD from a recognised university, first class from graduation onward. Thesis-submitted applicants must show the award certificate before joining. At most 40 years at submission, and within 5 years of the defence date. Not a PhD from ABV-IIITM Gwalior. At least two SCI/SSCI/SCIE papers in the latest JCR. Preference for industry-linked proposals. Fellowship Rs 1,08,393 per month. Contingency Rs 1,00,000, pro-rata (example printed: Rs 25,000 a quarter). Maximum one year, temporary, full-time. No application fee.

Use admissions.iiitm.ac.in. Not the IIIT Pune form, even though the last date is the same.
Pay Rs 500 or Rs 250 only for a PhD card. PDF has no fee. A page asking Rs 2,000 to “forward your form” is not the institute.
Save the acknowledgement. One seat does not mean one form covers PhD and PDF.
