What Central University of Himachal Pradesh actually does

Central University of Himachal Pradesh is a central university set up by the Government of India in Dharamshala. Its Dr. Ambedkar Centre of Excellence runs free coaching for civil services exams under a scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The centre coaches SC and OBC students for UPSC and state PSC Group A and B posts. It also takes a limited number of paid students and unlimited PM CARES Children Scheme beneficiaries.

What kind of seat this is

This is a one-year free coaching programme, not a degree. Classes start tentatively on 1 January 2027. Selected free-seat students get a stipend. Paid seats have a fixed fee and no stipend. The course covers Group A and B examinations of UPSC and SPSC. You attend classes at the university campus in Dharamshala.

Who should apply — and who should skip

Apply if you are an Indian citizen, SC or OBC with total family income of Rs 8 lakh or less per year from all sources, age between 21 and 37 years, and you have at least 50 percent marks in both Class 12 and graduation. PM CARES Children Scheme beneficiaries can apply without the caste or income limit and without the entrance test if they have the certificate with beneficiary ID.

Skip if your family income is above Rs 8 lakh, you have already taken the benefit more than twice under this or similar central or state schemes, you do not have a valid Aadhaar and seeded bank account, or you scored below 50 percent in Class 12 or graduation. Also skip if you are looking for a degree admission rather than coaching.
