The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), part of TIFR Mumbai, is admitting students to its PhD in Science Education, with a scholarship of ₹37,000–₹42,000 per month. A master’s in any subject qualifies. Apply by 25 Oct 2026, 11 pm IST.
A master’s degree in any subject, with at least five years of study after Class 12.
Post Graduate Diplomas do not qualify.
Science and mathematics teachers and STEM educators are encouraged to apply.
What is the programme like?
You research how students learn science and mathematics and how teaching and curriculum can improve. Admission is for one year at a time, renewable up to five years. Teachers can do part of their research at their own institution but must spend at least two years at HBCSE in Mumbai.
Do I need a science master’s? No. A master’s in any subject qualifies, if it involved at least five years of study after Class 12.
Can I keep my teaching job? Partly. You must spend at least two years at HBCSE in person.
When is the interview? To be announced after the 13 Dec exam.
